Auschwitz Auschwitz, or Auschwitz-Birkenau, is the best-known of all Nazi death camps, though Auschwitz was just one of six extermination camps. It was also a labor concentration camp, extracting prisoners value from them, in the form of hard labor, for weeks or months. Auschwitz was the end of the line for millions of Jews, gypsies, Jehovahs Witnesses, and other innocents. Some spend almost two years in this most infamous of concentration camps. The average prisoner only survived eigh t weeks in Auschwitz. Some learned the ins and outs of survival in Auschwitz. Auschwitz was the largest concentration and extermination camp constructed in the Third Reich. Located 37 miles west of Krakow, Poland, Auschwitz was home to both the greatest number of forced laborers and deaths. The history of the camp began on April 27, 1940 when Heinrich Himmler, the head of the SS and Gestapo, ordered the construction of the camp in northeast Silesia, a region captured by the Nazis in September 1939. The camp was built by three-hundred Jewish prisoners from the local town of Oswiecim and its surrounding area. In June of 1940 the camp opened for Polish political prisoners. By 1941 there were about 11,000 prisoners, most of whom were Polish. From May 1940 to the end of 1943, Rudolf Hess was head commander of Auschwitz. Under his leadership, Auschwitz quickly became known as the harshest prison camp in the Nazi regime. Polish prisoners were forced to stand at attention for roll call for hours on end naked in the cold, snowy tundra of Polish winter. Following its first year of existence, Heinrich Himmler visited Auschwitz and told Hess that its labor resource was to be expanded to 100,000 prisoners, making it one of the largest of the concentration camps. In order to accommodate this many people, a second, much larger, section of Auschwitz (Auschwitz II) would have to be constructed. Auschwitz II was built just two miles west of Auschwitz I and would be called Birkenau. Prisoners were packed so tightly into the railroad cars that they couldnt even squat to sit, much less lie down to sleep. They rode for two days with no food, no water, no toilet facilitieswith only dirty straw on the floor. They finally arrived at their destination, glad to finally be breathing fresh air when the cattle car doors were pulled open. Instead they are greeted with shouts of anger, with guns and bayonets pointed at them, and with guards holding back police dogs ready to tear them apart. A stench fills the air. They are at Birkenau, the second part of the Auschwitz complex, called by some the mother of all concentration camps. The manpower to build the camp came from 200,000 Russian prisoners of war who were forced to march from Russia to a camp at Lamsdord without any food. During these early days the Russians received more abuse than the Polish prisoners because they were more feared for their military might. They were looked upon by Hess as expendable labor due to their inferior abilities and physical weakness. Of the 12,000 prisoners who were sent to Birkenau in 1941, only 150 survived to the following summer.Some prisoners were assigned to the most gruesome task that of the Sonderkommando. These prisoners were forced to work in the crematoria, burning the Jews who had just been gassed. All prisoners who were selected for forced labor were tattooed with numbers on their left arms. Any slip, outburst, or failure to comply with the guards resulted in immediate d eath. Because executions by gunfire were inefficient, expensive, and potentially identifiable, intoxication by poison gasa method used by the Germans to kill over 50,000 mental patients since 1939was agreed on as the method of choice. Zyclon was originally brought to Auschwitz as a disinfectant and vermin killer. On September 3, 1941, Fritzsch experimented with Zyclon B. on 600 Russian prisoners of war and 250 tubercular patients. He was amazed at the number of people who could be killed at once. On October 15, 1941, a plan for the future camp of Birkenau, designed by one of the prisoners, was approved. The layout was meant to house 100,000 prisoners. Before construction began, however, the SS instructed that Birkenau should be built for double that amount. The first transports of Jews into the camp began on March 26, 1942 with the arrival of 999 Slovakian women. Since the crematoriums had not yet been built, women were housed in a newly established womens section in Auschwitz I, pl aced to work, and beaten daily at roll call. By the end of March there were 6,000 women prisoners in Auschwitz I. A third section of the camp, called Auschwitz III or Buna-Monowitz, was established to provide forced labor for the German industries that had plants at Auschwitz. The victims who were lucky enough to escape the fate of the gas chambers were taken to the quarantine where they were taken to a bath or sauna. Their clothing was taken, hair shaven, and they were given striped prisoner garb. Most people only survived a few weeks in the quarantine and a few months in the labor camp itself. Every morning these prisoners had to endure roll call whereby they would stand for hours at attention outdoors in the cold, wind, and rain or snow. Anyone who fell was gassed. By the time the Auschwitz was destroyed and liberated in the summer of 1944 , over 1.5 million Jews and 4 million people in total were murdered at Auschwitz. Hess was arrested and tried at Nuremberg where he was convic ted and summarily hanged in 1947. This is a version of the now famous story of the Polish dancer named Horowitz, who bravely attacks an SS guard named Schillinger while he is trying to force her to undress in the gas chamber, disguised as a shower. She kills Schillinger with his own gun and wounds another guard before she is machine-gunned to her own death. Extinction: A basic phenomenon of learning that occurs when a previously conditioned response decreases in frequency and eventually disappears. Positive Reinforcer : A stimulus added to the environment that brings about an increase in a preceding response. Negative Reinforcer : An unpleasant stimulus whose removal leads to an increase in the probability that a preceding response will be repeated in the future. Punishment: A stimulus that decreases the probability that a previous behavior will occur again. The behavior I am concerned about is my inability to lose 20 pounds. I have gone to a medical weight loss clinic where I lost nearly 30 pounds quickly, but I regained it almost immediately. The trick, I think, to losing the weight was not just caloric restriction but the dietary counseling. Every day I kept a food diary and once a week I was required to weigh in and meet with a counselor who went over my food diary with me and we discussed what I was , and was not doing right. With some tweaks here and there I managed to lose the weight. My cholesterol went down, my blood pressure improved and I even stopped snoring. Now, mind you, I am not out of the "normal" body mass index range, but I am on the upper end of "normal." So technically I am not considered overweight. However, I have an unusually narrow oral aperture, so any extra weight causes sleep apnea, which keeps my husband awake. The situation where I perf orm this behavior most often is when I am at home and either experiencing anxiety or boredom. Additionally, s ometimes after lunch at the office I crave something sweet. My boss is a doctor and likes to bring me treats from the doctor's lounge. I have had to ask him to stop doing this. I do not typically perform this behavior with anyone. It is just something I manage to do on my own. In fact, it happens more often when I am alone. I get a very comforting, happy feeling when I am all cozy on the couch eating a bowl of ice cream, or a chocolate chip cookie is melting in my mouth. I find it hard to describe, but it is probably similar to what a heroin addict feels when he gets that immediate rush coursing through his veins. When I am held accountable for my actions, like when I have to record everything that goes into my mouth and report it to a food counselor each week; that helps me change my behavior. When she tells me I did a great job; that makes me feel like I can keep it up. When my husband tells me how great I look or when my boss comments on what a great job I am doing, that is the kind of positive reinforcement that really helps me; that, and being able to fit into my old cute clothes again. The types of positive reinforcement I could give myself might be treating myself to some new clothes. Shopping for new clothes is always fun when you lose weight. I am in need of some new clothes and I keep telling myself that I will buy them when I lose the weight, but that has not been happening. I do get positive reinforcement from friends and family if I lose a few pounds, but I do not get negative reinforcement for gaining them back. I just give myself negative reinforcement, which is ineffective an d only serves to make me feel worse about myself. Negative reinforcement has proven to be totally ineffective for me. What happens is I feel fatter and uglier than I did before, I feel worthless and depressed and then I just say "screw it" and give up. Then I go eat a bowl of ice cream or a brownie or something to make myself feel better, and then I feel guilty for doing that. It is a vicious cycle . A type of punishment that might work for me might be an electric shock collar

Los hijos solteros que el hijo pedido pudiera tener, es decir, los nietos de la persona que realizaba la peticià ³n.   Pero a partir de un cambio en el programa ya no era  necesario que el padre que pide desde Estados Unidos estuviera legalmente casado con el que cuida al hijo en Honduras, Guatemala o El Salvador.   Adems, se podà ­a  pedir a otros cuidadores del hijo, como por ejemplo abuelos o tà ­os Cà ³mo se tramitaba la peticià ³n CAM de refugio para menores centroamericanos El padre o la madre que estaba  legalmente en Estados Unidos debà ­a llenar el formulario DS-7699 al cual se podà ­a acceder sà ³lo   contactando con una Oficina de Reasentamiento. El trmite era gratuito. El menor debà ­a  ser entrevistado en su paà ­s de origen y si se aprobaba la peticià ³n podà ­a ingresar a Estados Unidos como refugiado. Tambià ©n podà ­a  suceder que el oficial consular no aprobase la peticià ³n. En estos casos hubo un tiempo en que era posible que se concediera un permiso de residencia temporal humanitario de carcter temporal. Es decir, serà ­a vlido por un tiempo pero no era un camino hacia la residencia permanente (green card). Sin embargo, el gobierno del presidente Trump le puso fin a este permiso humanitario con fecha de agosto de 2017. Tambià ©n era  posible que el menor pasara un tiempo en Costa Rica durante la tramitacià ³n de los papeles. Examination malpractices have in recent years remained one of the disturbing phenomenons in educational institutions in Nigeria. The Ballard test is a scale used to estimate the gestational age of a newborn infant. The test evaluates the neuromuscular and physical maturity of an infant. There are six different areas of neuromuscular maturity that are rated. Seven different areas of physical maturity are rated based on observation of the infant. Gestational age is the measure of time an infant spends growing in the womb before birth.It’s an important factor to determine because it can be an indicator of any potential problems that the newborn might develop. Gestational age can also reveal whether or not it was a healthy pregnancy.Assessing Neurological Features In order to assess the newborn’s neurological features the infant should be awake, not crying and lying on her back. You then score the infants posture based on your observation of free movement of the limbs. The following features are scored based on your observation when you manipulate the limbs: square window, arm recoil, popliteal angle , scarf sign and heel to ear. Assessing External Features The external features are scored based on your observation of the infant. These external features include: skin, lanugo, plantar creases, breast, ear, genitalia.Scoring External and neurological features are rated based on a score of zero to four. The final score is then compared to a table which gives the approximate gestational age. If the final score is within two weeks of the mother’s dates, then her dates are acceptable. Once inside a cell, HIV uses the cells ribosomes and other components to make viral proteins and to replicate. When new virus particles are formed, they emerge from the infected cell cloaked in a membrane and proteins from the infected cell. This helps the virus particles avoid immune system detection. What Is HIV? HIV is the virus that causes the disease known as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, or AIDS. HIV destroys cells of the immune system, making an individual infected with the virus less equipped to fight off infection. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), this virus may be transmitted when infected blood, semen, or vaginal secretions come in contact with an uninfected persons broken skin or mucous membranes. Since macrophages are found in every organ system, they can transport the virus to various sites in the body. HIV-infected macrophages may also destroy T cells by releasing toxins that cause nearby T cells to undergo apoptosis or programmed cell death. Engineering HIV-Resistant Cells Scientists are attempting to develop new methods for fighting HIV and AIDS. Stanford University School of Medicine researchers has genetically engineered T cells to be resistant to HIV infection. They accomplished this by inserting HIV-resistant genes into the T-cell genome. These genes successfully blocked the entry of the virus into the altered T cells. According to researcher Matthew Porteus, We inactivated one of the receptors that HIV uses to gain entry and added new genes to protect against HIV, so we have multiple layers of protection what we call stacking.
